Greene County Literacy Coalition Plans to Expand Programs and Tutoring with UDWI REMC Community Fund Grant
The Greene County Literacy Coalition — dedicated to improving literacy and education within the southern Indiana region — was selected as last quarter’s feature organization by the UDWI REMC Community Fund Committee. In September, the Coalition received a $1,280 grant, which it plans to use to expand its literacy programs, support tutor training, and enhance community initiatives.

Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH), a nonprofit organization that utilizes its network of hunters and farmers to provide meat to local food pantries, was chosen as a recent recipient of a UDWI REMC Community Fund, Inc. grant totaling $3,000.

The UDWI REMC Community Fund, Inc. donated $5,000 in disaster relief funds to the American Red Cross, providing relief to local Monroe and Greene County residents affected by the tornado and severe storms that swept through the area on May 16.
UDWI REMC Names Shane Smith as New CEO
The Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC has named Shane Smith as its new Chief Executive Officer. The UDWI REMC Board of Directors selected Smith after a national search process to replace Doug Childs who will retire this summer after nearly eight years with the cooperative.
UDWI REMC Provides Update on Storm Restoration
Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC would like to thank members for their patience as we work to assess damages and restore power as a result of yesterday’s storm that affected nearly 9,000 members. We believe two separate tornados also touched down in our service territory during the storm, causing significant infrastructure loss in some areas.
