The Latest UDWI REMC Community Fund, Inc. Grant to FHFH Will Help Provide Food for Those in Need

BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (Aug. 19, 2025)— Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH), a nonprofit organization that utilizes its network of hunters and farmers to provide meat to local food pantries, was chosen as a recent recipient of a UDWI REMC Community Fund, Inc. grant totaling $3,000.

The FHFH organization was founded by Rick Wilson in 1997 to help combat hunger by providing meat, free of charge, to food pantries and feeding missions in local communities. The Greene County Chapter IN-15 of FHFH, established in the early 2000s, partners with hunters and farmers in the area, encouraging them to donate their deer harvest and livestock. After receiving the donations, the organization sends the meat to its processing partners who process the meat, free of charge, into one-pound packages of ground burger that are donated to nine local food pantries.

“Often, meat is the most needed, but most expensive item for food pantries and FHFH is proud to help meet this need,” said Brady Miller, Greene County Chapter IN-15 coordinator for FHFH. He continued, “The donation of just one deer can provide over 200 servings of high-quality meat to those in need. With the help of the Community Fund grant from UDWI, we can continue our mission of serving local communities by providing meat, free of charge, to those in need.”

Since the Greene County chapter of FHFH was formed, the organization has been able to provide over 43,000 pounds of meat to local food pantries and feeding missions. This equates to providing meat for over 172,000 meals. As hunting season approaches, FHFH encourages hunters in the area to get involved with its organization, donating deer to one of its participating processors: Lighthouse Custom Meats (812-645-9637) or Bloomfield Processing (812-384-7882).

For farmers looking to get involved in the organization, the FHFH Greene County Chapter IN-15 encourages them to donate livestock by contacting the chapter’s coordinator, Brady Miller, by phone at 812-699-3444 or email at greenecountyfhfh@yahoo.com. Financial donations supporting the organization’s operations are also accepted through the FHFH website www.feedingthehungry.org or by contacting Miller directly. If donating through the website, one should ensure that they specify the local Greene County Chapter IN-15.

To make an impact in your local community and donate to organizations such as FHFH, UDWI REMC members can participate in the Community Fund, Inc., which allows cooperative members to round up to the nearest whole dollar on their electric bills. The money accumulated is then awarded to various nonprofit organizations— determined by the UDWI REMC Community Fund Board (separate from UDWI REMC staff and Board of Directors).

The latest round of UDWI REMC Community Fund grant recipients in June included: Bloomfield First Baptist Church Food Pantry, Clay County Cooperative Benevolence Ministry, Eastern Greene Middle School, Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry, Greene County Humane Society, Inc., Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry, Knights of Columbus Council #1166, Linton-Stockton School Corporation, Metropolitan School District of Shakamak, Scotland Festival Committee, South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP), Stone City Alliance for Recovery and Hope, Inc., Tri Kappa / Alpha Theta Chapter, and Worthington Community Improvement Committee.

The UDWI REMC Community Fund, Inc. is now accepting applications for its next grant cycle. All nonprofit businesses in UDWI REMC’s service area are encouraged to apply. Please visit www.udwiremc.com to learn more about the program and to start an application.
